More progress. Steffen has pointed out to me that I can right-click on the CDVDBurn icon to use it to try to read a disc. This *does* open a filer window for the DVD+R that neither CDFS nor CDROMFS will access! I can then get at the contents of the DVD I wrote. I don't know yet if this is because CDFS/CDROMFS have limitations the CDVDBurn reader overcomes. But it means the disc is useable. I need to get some more DVD+Rs and have the time to experiment. But this is a step forward, even although it is puzzling.
