Members and Friends of Austin Mennonite Church This Sunday we will be reflecting on the counsel of Jesus, "Provide yourself a treasure in heaven where it will be neither exhausted nor vulnerable to loss." Throughout the history of the Christian church, this teaching has been a favorite passage to guide those who seek to be faithful to the way of Jesus. The institutional church has formulated numerous suggestions of practices which will ensure a heavenly treasure for those who manage their possessions accordingly. Some of these suggestions appear to be nearsighted--produced from a restricted economic and political perspective. What concerns prompted Jesus to relate this instruction to those who were listening to him? Do these same concerns apply to life in our time? Is this counsel of Jesus intended to make our lives more austere or more comfortable? These thoughts will compose the sermon, "God's invitation to Adventure." On Sunday, August 15, Grant Tupper will be preaching for us. Two other opportunities for ministry in the worship service are still available to you: Worship Leader and Greeter. Please consider sharing in one of these ways. As soon as possible, let me know that you would like to participate in this way. Thank you for your continuing ministry to our community. May it go well with you. Sincerely, Garland Robertson ...always hold firmly to the thought that each one of us can do something to bring some portion of misery to an end
