The importance lies in the fact that ascorbate oxidizes more 
quickly that ascorbic acid. This can affect keeping properties.

In my case it was "old" Tri-X developed in the Gainer developer, on 
its own. As I don't use much Tri-X, I'm not devastated by these 
strangely foggy results.
