Possibly related to your searching the Registry, the best program I know for targeting any specific term, expresson, number, or even a character in the Registry, is RegSeeker. It saves you the time in the Registry of going to Find, Find next, Find next, etc. And besides also having a Registry Cleaner included, there are many other featues (which I've never used). Note that any deleting automatically creates its own backup. Here's the blurb on it: "RegSeeker is a handy tool for managing several popular registry items and searching the registry by keyword. It offers quick access to Startup Entries, Uninstall Information, Color Schemes, History items (URLs, Recent Documents etc) and IE Favorites. The program also includes a registry cleaning feature that finds invalid and unused registry entries, allowing you to delete them. RegSeeker can automatically create a backup before deleting any registry entries. The program comes with an attractive, easy to use interface. Nevertheless it is not intended for complete beginners and you should feel comfortable working with the Windows registry before using it. It includes a powerful registry cleaner and can display various informations like your startup entries, several histories (even index.dat files), and installed applications. You can search for any item inside your registry, export/delete the results, and open them in the registry. It also includes a tweaks panel to optimize your system; and a file tool to search for duplicate files, and bad shortcuts."
