Re: [PCWorks] A tip for stopping annoying harassing "slide-ups" (a kind of pop-up) immune to pop-up blockers

Yes that can be confusing to most. Most of my customers are
also the same way. But **because of** that, is why they must
use a firewall. If one doesn't understand much about a PC, is
all the more reason they need to be fully protected because
they will eventually end up screwing something up by clicking
on a malware link or going to a site that's loaded with
malware. One does not have to be a PC or internet expert in
order to use a firewall. Like I mentioned earlier, there's
some simple ones out there that are better than nothing at all
at the "little-user-intervention-required" default settings.

Is this the part that's "Easy to understand"
"The first is at the actual packet level (layers 3 and 4 of the
OSI
model). The job here is to look for suspicious or malformed
packets,
detect port scans, and assess whether or not each packet should
be
allowed into the protocol stack. Packets will be analyzed by
networking
criteria, for example: formal validity of the packet; direction
of the
packet (inbound or outbound); source host and port; destination
host and
port; specific packet flags (is this a connection attempt? Does
it
belong to an already established connection?)"

It's not that I haven't tried, and I even have a book on
TCP/IP, but
that's largely opaque to me.
My users barely understand copy and paste, so this might as
well be in
Greek.
Windows just doesn't work very well in protecting people from
the
evil-doers out there.
