Cristy,
    Not only are you confusing yourself, you have confused me as well.  I 
thought we were talking about the ones on your main system that you were 
about to back up.  I now understadn that you were talking about an old 
backup that has nothing to do with this one.          lol

    Assuming you no longer need that old backup, once this new backup is 
created, you can delete the old OE backup folder.

    You can defrag any time, but I strongly suggest that it always follows a 
CHKDSK run so that the system is not trying to defragment any corrupt files.
