Hi Carlos,
the digital cameras I use are a Canon EOS 1Ds mk2, a Canon EOS 5d, a Nikon D3x,
a Nikon D300, a Nikon D700, a Leica M8.2, a Leica M9 and a Panasonic GH1. They
are all VERY similar to the 35mm film cameras I use but instead of a simple
winding mechanism and a space to put film they have a great deal of high tech
electronics and astonishing technology sensor. They all have a shutter and
focussing system similar to or better than their film equivalents.
Certainly your description would be not all that inaccurate for camera phones
and some P&S digitals, bt that is completely out of this context since we are
talking about quality cameras, not instamatics.
I find the difference between my Leica M6 and M9 to use is small, and I can
easily see why it is much more expensive to make, and hence to buy.
cheers,
Frank

Frank, there is a very large difference between a digital camera body
and a high quality mechanical camera body, the digital camera is a
group of electric circuits made by machines, the high quality
mechanical camera is direct human work, it requires craftmanship, the
mechanical camera has something that the digital camera never had, has
or will have, a human heart.
BTW, a very fine mechanical camera like the Zeiss Ikon RF that you
could use for 1000 years costs about U$S 950 at B&H NYC, the true
scandal is the high end digital cameras price.-
