Mom's Cuz Monster is an alpha, no doubt about it. His way of expressing it
with strangers is to make sure that all visitors know he has toys. He is
friendly!!! And you had better just love him or he won't trust you.
He will argue with anyone including Mom, but not me. I can do anything to
him. He only obeys when he has no choice or when it suites him.
Unlike Bucko he is hellbent on being loved and adored, he believes he is
entitled to your love and devotion.
Bucko is just too good for us ordinary folk, he has yet to meet anyone
besides my boys who is good enough for him.

Evan, My 100% American show lines GSD is just as you describe above, but only
with my husband, our close friends, and me. In public, he is aloof, but will
allow anyone to pet him; however, he does not display affection when petted by
a stranger. (He does love kids though.) My boy is very alert and is interested
in his environment, yet I can take this dog *anywhere* and not worry about him
spooking or showing aggression toward humans or animals.
Does my boy have an American or German temperament? IMO, he simply has a
*correct* temperament as defined by the Standard.
