Thanks Mary, I do have that manual and it's what led me to change my alternator
brackets.  Just seems to me like with the amount of space available in the
engine compartment, they could have moved the alternator a little farther away
from the engine so it wasn't such a tight fit.  I will hopefully get a good
chance to work on the truck tomorrow.  I am doing something wrong.  I don't
know
what it is, but maybe I do have the correct part.

1973 GMC Truck service manual GMC Sprint Chapter 6  is titled

10-SI Series Delcotron System

and in the text Manual calls it 'The 10-SI series Delcotron GENERATOR'

Figure B shows it bolted onto the 350 (as well as the 307 and 400) in the front
on the passenger side of the block just in front of and below the valve cover
with a small bracket on the bottom attaching it to the water pump and another
on
the drivers side attaching it to something.  It appears to be the water pump
and
the block on the tip at the base of where the water hose goes.  I would be
happy
to send you the entire chapter if it will help.  free.

engine numbers;

the 5th number of your VIN is the engine code.  H=350 with a two barrel and K =
350 with a four barrel.

Your block's engine and transmission codes are stamped on a pad on the front
right had side of the cylinder block.  I'm still hunting for what those numbers
mean and for the book with part numbers in it.

Mary
