Meeting at the Moo G Moon Education Center
Toastmaster was Luis Estrada, his first time. Theme was landscape spring
cleanup. "Imagine if trees gave free WiFi. We'd all be planting like
crazy. It's a pity they only give us the oxygen we breathe. Luis did an
excellent job keeping us entertained with gardening tips between speeches.
The meeting moved along smoothly and it was well organized.
Russ Agnew made an announcement. Russ is going to represent his other
toastmasters club because they were his first but we supported him better.
We wish him luck no matter which club he represents.
Jeff Stoll: Greeter. Dues are Due.
Pattie Apple: Ah-Counter
Shirley K. Eaves: Grammarian/WOD. The word of the day was OBSEQUIOUS.
Obedient or attentive to an excessive or servile degree.

Timer/Joker: Lori High.
Guy takes a spring walk and come across a sign that reads "talking dog for
sale" Guy asks dog what have you done in life that's so important. Dog
says he has been in Iraq. Dog says he reads the paper for folks in old
folks home. Guy asks owner why is he getting rid of dog? Owner answers
"he's a liar, dog never did any of that."
Kathy Barrett: Inspiration. Golf, not just hitting a ball down the
fairway. It's about the beauty. Get a cart and ride through the golf
course.

Speaker #1. Jonathan Kolber.
The wonderful day I almost died. Cannot pee. Sweating bullets. Visit to
the emergency room. Bladder swollen three times the normal size. Catheter
placed. 3 liters of fluid came out. Diagnosed with a bladder infection,
placed on antibiotics. Day later, placed on a second antibiotic.
Infection raged on. Pulse 169. Wife told you have to be here. Fly in
special antibiotic, cured him. Catheter for one month. Great times,
learned life lesson. 1. Compassion and Empathy. 2. Difference between
suffering and pain. 3. Life Purpose - write a book. This is the speech
Jonathan will be presenting on 31 March at the Area Contest. We all wish
him the best of luck. (ROCK ON Jonathan).
Speaker #2. Dirk Kittredge,
With the help of Kathy Barrett. Kathy interviewed Dirk in the hall way and
the interview was displayed through a speaker in the room. Dirk and Kathy
were not in the room. It was as if we were all listening to the radio.
Very creative and very effective. Dirk and Kathy's voice were both very
professional. Just like a radio segment, there was a plug in for Wong
Family Dentistry. pull four teeth for the price of three (what a deal.
Talk about creativity - that's funny). YMCA, changed the name to "Y". A
non profit organization dating back to 1844. The Y was the first to phrase
body building. The Y started basketball, volleyball, racquetball, and swim
safety. There's Indian Guides between father and son's. The Y has helped
with Nine Eleven, The Tsunami in 2004, and Katrina in 2005. There are 25
YMCA's in Denver. The speech was very informative and organized. The
sound from the speaker was crisp and clear. Dirk sounded very comfortable
and he was easy to listen to. Great job Dirk and Kathy.
Speaker #3. Alan Wong
The Man Behind the Counter. Anatomy test with colored flag pins. Is the
dissected body facing up or is it facing down? National Boards, failed all
eight sections. God - can you hear me cry? Please help me. Deal with God
to help me graduate. Neighborhood drunk asking "Do you know who you are"?
Passed the National Boards 7 months later. Completed requirements.
Graduated. If I ever see the neighborhood drunk again, "Hey Buddy, I know
who I am. I'm the Doctor behind the Counter". I won the ribbon (Yay). I
need to work on my nervous hand movements. I slouch too much and I need to
work on a more confident delivery when I speak. That's me critiquing my
delivery. As for the speech, the events are all true. Our past allows us
to become who we are today. And toastmasters allows me to become a better
everything tomorrow.
Speaker #4. Robin McIntosh
Dessert Parfait. No meat and no substance, just dessert. To build a
parfait whip cream and top if off with a cheery. Desserts come in all
shapes and sizes. Ultimate dessert is birthday cake. Napoleon cake takes
two days to make. And it's made with love. Another favorite is deep
fried ice cream at the Morrison Inn. Cinzetti's has a dessert with no
name. It has pound cake with strawberries and berries in a rich creamy
sauce. I cannot have just one (and Robin holds up four fingers). Crepe
Suzette, brandy, fire. Tip - put out the flame before eating it.
Shokulatinia, chocolate sausage with pecans was made for us to eat during
the break. (Bribing with food usually helps to win the ribbon. I think if
there was Napoleon cake also that would have won the speech. Yup, cake was
the missing ingredient). Great speech Robin.
Break - 5 minutes
Table Topics - Richa Acharya. Long questions. Thought provoking requiring
thought and reflection. Glad I was not called up.
1. Phil Poplawski. Question: Hanging out by swimming pool with potpourri
and shovel. What were you doing? Answer: Not fixing the hole. Friends
too busy partying and eating potpourri.
2. *Russ Agnew*. Question. Dusting old bookcase and fell into a well,
where are you? Answer: Great question. Walked up stairs, round wood
door with a bright golden door knob. Led to book shelf with the book
Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. Read the book 19 times. Fell into
a well with frogs, skeletons, eating potpourri. (Russ won the ribbon for
Table Topics. Creative answer. Loved it when he pointed to his colorful
shoes with flowers on it and said Tropical).
3. Jeff Stoll. Question. Show how you care. Cleaning kitchen and one
item is left. What is the one item and why was this one item left behind?
Answer. This is fiction. Someone else's stuff put away. Screaming has
not improved. Wife is the answer. The one item he left behind was his
wife.
4. Luke Vesely. Question. Spring Cleaning or Hokey Poky with friends.
Answer. Important on ones benefit, left foot out and left foot in. Hand
in and hand out. And that's how you do the hokey poky with friends.
Picking friends to do the poky prevents any medical disasters.
Evaluations
1. Round Robin for Jonathan. Dance like you have to pee like nobodies
business. Pause with incredible phone call to wife. Good closing
statement, remember to pause. Remove Dumb Ass. Good descriptions. Tie
message with "whole" speech. Time crunch. Change 3.1 liters to gallon.
(Nice evaluations from everyone. It' a very good speech because it packs
emotion and it leads to life purpose). We're all rooting for you
Jonathan.
2. Katellynn Stoll evaluating Dirk Kittredge. Read objectives. Met
objectives. We could not tell if you were reading from note cards or not.
Made us all want to visit the "Y". Great impact "Y" has on everyone. Your
so good, some day you will be on the air.
3. Jennifer Dunne evaluating Me. Emotionally involved. Humor,
nervousness. Time line a little off. Great story. Good details. Tie
together the story by talking about the story versus being in the story.
(Jennifer won ribbon for best evaluator, Congratulations Jennifer).
4. Colette Smith evaluating Robin McIntosh. Promised fluff. Delivered
fluff. Did the audience know what the purpose of the speech was about?
Pure entertainment. Strength. Great ending. Dessert with love. Good
stage use. Lots of laughter.
Adam Vesely was General Evaluator.
Katelynn. Good feedback on Dirk. Most people are afraid to evaluate
Dirk. (and I'd be one them). Good job Katelynn.
Jennifer. Adam now knows why Jennifer is such a good evaluator. She's
that one particular boss you fear but she makes people do better on their
next speech. (Amen).
Colette. Touching words. A bit mushy. Good feedback.
Reports on the Meeting
Pattie Apple. Ah-Counter. Luis, Russ and Phil. were the um winners for
the evening.
Shirley Eaves. Grammarian. Not that easy when your own grammar is not
that good. (not true). Obsequious was used three times. Ado by
Johnathan. Robin used the word Meretricious which was Word of the day from
last week. Robin phrased allergen road. Fun fact. One slice of Napoleon
cake has 260 calories. (I don't care, I'll have two slices please).
Luke Vesely. Quz Master. Who said Spring, spring, sprung? Answer Russ
Agnew.
Where did dogs rescue people? Answer. Alps.
Where did Alan attend dental school? Answer. Creighton University
Adam was General Evaluator. Feedback on Luis being first time
toastmaster. Lead the applause. Sitting down during speeches. Explain
evaluations forms especially to guests. Nervousness but still a job well
done. Good job with correct name spellings on the agenda sheet.
Ribbon winners were: Jennifer Dunne for best evaluator. Russ Agnew for
best table topics. And Alan Wong for best speech. The meeting had 22
people in attendance with four guests. It was another fantastic meeting
with lots of humor and laughter. Two hours lay over at the airport seems
like eternity. Two hours in toastmasters seems like a blink of the eyes.
I am sorry if you missed out last week because you really should've been
there. Until next week I am your humble secretary.
