I chose peer-to-peer file sharing as a societical issue to disucss. Personally I think that the copy-right law needs to be re-written to accomadate today's new technology, peer-to-peer file sharing. This technology allows anyone with an internet connection to share file they want to anyone else with an internet connection. Wether it's music, pictures, video, or even software, pretty much anything can be obtained using this new advance. This sounds great to the average person, but many people aren't happy and argue that this breaks copyright laws. I agree it does. If you download a whole CD for free, you are breaking the copyright law. I think we should ammend the old law and add the use of peer-to-peer at a moderate level. This is a necessary ammendmant because as we stand today, pretty much everyone enjoying music on the net are criminals. A quote from http://www.eff.org/share/ puts it pretty well: "It's time to face the fact that in today's world, copyright law is broke n. Our current copyright regime makes criminals out of music lovers. Worse, it makes suspected criminals out of all Internet users." I think peer-to-peer networks are a good thing in moderation and people abusing it should be punished. # # Alex # Anders .-#-.
