The North Central PA Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the DuBois Diner. The meeting will begin with breakfast at 8 AM followed by a presentation by Randy Liddle, PA Department of Labor and I ndustry. His topic is “Exempt/Non-Exempt Status” under the PA Minimum Wage Act. Penn State DuBois Continuing Education is the sponsor for the meeting.  Reservations for the meeting can be made by a fax to 653-8425. A Ribbon Cutting will take place on Tuesday, May 10th at noon to celebrate the Grand Opening of the dental office of Dr. Joseph P. Zeitler, Jr. located at 462 Barnoff Road, DuBois.

The DuBois Rotary Club is now accepting applications for project funding for their 2011-2012 Rotary Year.  Any 501 ( c ) 3 agency who wishes to submit an application should clarify the project to be funded on agency letterhead and send request to PO Box 271, DuBois by the end of this month.  Please a lso include a listing of board of directors and staff contact information.

 

Library Craft Raffle: Works of  Heart - The Friends of the Library are planning their annual craft display and raffle, Works of  Heart.  Craft items donated by the Friends of the Library as well as by other members of the community may be viewed at the DuBois Public Library beginning on May 27. Tickets will go on sale on June 1 and will be available to purchase for $1 each at the library and at the Festival of the Arts. The drawing will take place on June 10 at 3:00 P.M.  Anyone who would like to donate a craft item  for the display and raffle may drop it off at the library beginning May23.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children will benefit from the nationwide effort of cosmetology schools and salons across the country as a Cut-A-Thon will take place on Wednesday, May 25th from 9am to 8pm.  Our own Pa. Children’s Fishing Rodeo- Sunday, June 5, 1:00pm-3:00pm in Cook Forest State Park.   Children 12 years and under are permitted to fish freshly stocked Tom’s Run from the Swinging Bridge to the Children’s Fishing Pond. Registration and prize give-away will be held at the Children's Fishing Pond behind the Park Office. This event is sponsored by the Marienville Rod & Gun Club, PA Fish & Boat Commission, Cook Forest Vacation Bureau, and Cook Forest State Park. All prizes donated by area merchants. 

 

AmServ LTD/DuSan C ommunity Ambulance is proud to be able to share with the community the dedication of our building addition on Saturday June 25th at 11:30 am. Open house will take place from 10 am to 1 pm.  AmServ LTD/DuSan Community Ambulance has been serving DuBois, Sandy Township and the surrounding area for 32 years.  Our employees along with the board of directors will provide tours and activities for all ages featuring blood pressure screenings, demonstrations, educational information and refreshments.  The North Central Communities Conference will continue its overwhelming success from last year’s event by meeting at Penn State DuBois on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 9am to 3:30pm.  The day-long workshops will run in four separate tracks, such as Improving Communities; Developing Workforce; Municipal Training; and GIS/Computer Training.  Register online at www.ncentral.com before no later than May 6th – registration fee is $5.00 per person.

 

The DuBois Area Historical Society will host the May 19th  – Third Annual Spring Walk, during which Anne Young and students of DuBois Area High School’s Pupil Enrichment Program will unveiling their downtown DuBois wa lking tour; leaving from E. D. Reitz Museum, 6 p.m.  This is rescheduled from April 23.
