This Week:

 

ALL THE WORLD IS A SALAD BAR - The Friends of the Library are presenting their annual spring gardening program, “All the World is a Salad Bar” on April 5 beginning at 6:30 P.M. in the program room of the DuBois Public Library. From 6:30 until 7:15 Carey Huber, Environmental Education Specialist at Parker Dam, will identify and discuss edible plants common to our area. Then, from 7:30 to 8:00, John Bojalad, DuBois Area Middle School Special Education teacher, will talk about  setting up a greenhouse.  Several gardening books will be awarded as door prizes.

 

An Energy Exhibit with information on all forms of energy will make a stop at Penn State DuBois on Wednesday, April 6th from 5-8pm.  This exhibit will help educate students and residents about Marcellus Shale and other energy interests of the area.  For more information, contact Jeannine Hanes at 375-4836.

 

DuBois Community Meeting to discuss – WPSU presenting OUR TOWN DUBOIS.  On Wednesday, April 6th at 7:00pm at the DuBois Business College the “Our Town” process will be explained.  They will be looking for film segments, still photos and videos along with story ideas about what is unique in our 15801 area.  Be thinking about some of the ‘specials’ that makes our area so great.  For further information go online to http://wpsu.org/ourtown or contact the Chamber at dacc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

 

Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabiliation Center will hold their Spring Senior Expo on Friday April 8th form 10a to 3pm at Lock Haven Clearfield to provide information on insurance, community programs, support groups, and so much more.  The theme of the day is helping people "Fit the Pieces Together In Their Community".  Lunch is provided and there is no cost for this educational day.  Please call 765-7545 for additional information.

 

The Autism Awareness Fair will be held at the DuBois Mall on Saturday, April 9th from 11-3pm.

The DuBois Area Historical Society will resume its regular summer hours of operation beginning Tuesday, A pril 5. The Society’s regular summer hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., April through November.  Visitors can make appointments for genealogical research and/or group tours at other times by calling (814) 371-9006 during the open hours to arrange a time.

 

First United Presbyterian Church of DuBois is hosting a Spring Craft Fair on Saturday, April 9, from 9 am – 3 pm at the church.  Knitted and sewn items, ceramic pottery, wreaths, candles, birdhouses, baked goods, and more will be for sale.  The fair is sponsored by the church’s Board of Deacons and all p roceeds will be placed in their mission fund to support local non-profits and provide assistance to families in need.  Check out beautiful spring décor and enjoy some yummy home-baked items, too!  For more information, contact the church office, at 814-371-9580.

The DuBois Area Historical Society will host the May 19th  – Third Annual Spring Walk, during which Anne Young and students of DuBois Area High School’s Pupil Enrichment Program will unveiling their downtown DuBois walking tour; leaving from E. D. Reitz Museum, 11 a.m.  This is rescheduled from April 23.

 

The 6th Annual First Bash of Summer Carnival sponsored by the American Red Cross, DuBois chapter, will be in the DuBois City Memorial Park J une 1-June 4. The Carnival is open Wednesday through Friday 6 pm to 10 pm and Sat 3 pm.

Programs at Cook Forest State Park - Saturday, April 23 at 930am - ‘Brew and Birding: Birding Cook Forest’ - Please bring your binoculars and coffee mugs to the Park Office to start the day off with a morning interpretive hike listening for warblers, thrushes, and goshawks in one of the Northeastern United States most magnificent old growth forests.  We’ll then car-pool to birding hotspots along the Clarion River.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to  identify forest birds by ear.  Bald eagles and osprey have been known to make an appearance.

DuBois Area Council of the Arts in collaboration with the Downtown DuBois Revitalization Group announces the first Downtown DuBois Art-Walk 2011 scheduled from April 30th to May 6th, 2011. Art walk is designed to showcase and celebrate the work of local artists and craftsmen as well as to bring the community in the downtown area.  Art work will be hosted by the businesses in downtown area.  Community members will take the Art Walk walking into businesses and shops located along the Brady Street and West Long Avenue corridors visiting the host businesses and their guest artists. Art Walk opens with an invitation to Meet the Artists on Saturday, April 30 from 1-4pm.  Here the visitors can visit the merchants and also meet and greet the artists showing their work.  Art Walk will be open to visitors throughout the week during normal business hours and will end on May 6th 2 011.  All art work will be for sale if you choose to take a piece home.  Full Art-Walk map and event details to follow.  Details will also be available at  http://www.dacota.us/
