Cook Forest News:  Wednesday & Thursday, August 11 & 12 at 830am - ‘Clarion River History Teacher Workshop’   This workshop will emphasize history of the Clarion River through various 3rd person living history character portrayals during the mid 1700’s French & Indian War and mid 1800’s lumber boom era. Teachers will also investigate and document various lumber towns and raft fabrication sites along the Clarion River via canoe, as well as gain valuable insight into how local history can be incorporated into the classroom.  Teachers will receive a copy of ‘True Tales of the Clarion River’, ‘Tanbark, Alcohol & Lumber: Book No. 12 in the series Logging Railroad Era of Lumbering in Pennsylvania’, and ‘Elk County: A Journey Through Time’. DuBois Area Council on the Arts continues its Poetry in the Park series, Friday, August 13th from noon – 1pm.  Join us at Pavilion A in the City Park near the YMCA.  This is free and open to the public.

 

Friday, August 13 at 730pm - ‘Night Fishin on the Clarion’     Did you know that fishing at night is often THE best time to fish?  The National Wild & Scenic Clarion River contains many different kinds of fish and wildlife that are very active at night.  Fish that are often wary during the day come out of their hiding spots at night to feed.  Smallmouth bass and brook trout can be readily caught during daylight, but big brownies, catfish, and walleye are often on the prowl at night.  Please bring your fishing poles, lanterns, and bait to the Park Office where we’ll car-pool to fishing hotspots along the river.  Don’t forget your chicken livers!  (2.5hrs)

 

On August 14th, the DuBois Business College Hope Club will be hosting a Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show.   Registration is from 10 am to 1 pm and there will be a $10 entry fee.  Vehcile owners will be doing the judging at 2 pm and trophies and prized will be awarded at 4 pm.  All of the proceeds will benefit the Sheetz For The Kidz Charity.  There will be 21 awards given in the following classes: 1900-1949 Car (Stock); 1950-1959 Car (Stock); 1960-1964 Car (Stock); 1965-1970 Car (Stock); 1971-1985 Car (Stock); 1986-2010 Car (Stock); 1900-1949 Street Rods; 1950-1975 (Street Modified); 1976-2010 (Street Modified); 1900-2010 Trucks (Stock); 1900-2010 Trucks (Modified); 1900-2010 Sports Car; 1953-2010 Corvette; 1964-2010 Mustang; 1967-2010 Camaro; Best Muscle Car (Stock); Best Muscle Car (Modified); Best Jeep/SUV; Best Import Tuner; Best Motorcycle; People Choice Award. Hospital Avenue Project Update for Week of August 9 - The following information is an update for PennDOT’s Hospital Avenue/Dixon Avenue realignment project in DuBois for the week of August 9.  All work is weather dependent.

·         Traffic will be restricted to one lane on South Main Street between Grove Avenue and Hospital Avenue for the installation of storm drainage, waterline and temporary widening. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic. Drivers will experience delays.

·         Grove Avenue will continue to be closed between South Main Street and Prospect Street. All motorists are to follow the signed detour route. This closure will remain in effect until further notice.

·         Prospect Street will continue to be closed between Hospital Avenue and Grove Avenue. All motorists are to follow the signed detour route. This closure will remain in effect until further notice. 

·         Prospect Street between Hospital Avenue and Mundorf Avenue will continue to be closed. Miller Avenue between South Main Street and Prospect Street will also continue to be closed. All motorists are to follow the signed detour route. These closures will remain in effect until further notice. 

                Motorists are advised to watch for slow moving and stopped vehicles through the entire work zone

Touch A Truck Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd  in the parking lot of the DuBois Mall nearest the Hampton Inn.  Glenn O. Hawbaker and the Greater DuBois Chamber with support from DuBois Kiwanis Club offer children from the surrounding area the opportunity to see, hear, pretend to drive, etc. all types of vehicles from all businesses of our region.  Various businesses donate their time and vehicles to allow children to learn about vehicle and personal safety during this few hours of entertainment.  This is a FREE event – we simply ask if the kids can bring a can of food to share with others, it would be appreciated.  If your business would like to participate, dacc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
