The Dale Carnegie Course will again be offered to local high school students.  Financial assistance is being requested so the students do not have to personally pay for this exciting experience.  Classes begin soon.  If you and/or your company can provide financial help for this very worthwhile endeavor, please call Nancy Micks at 371-5010 – this will remain confidential information.

 

DuBois Kiwanis Club hosts Community Days at Hoss’s on Monday, September 13th.  Twenty percent (20%) of the proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Smoke Alarm Fund – a working smoke alarm is provided to the family of every newborn at DRMC.  Support this life-Saving Project!

 

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) asks you to join them for their September 2010 meeting!  The meeting will be on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at  The DuBois Diner  located at W. DuBois Avenue (across the street from Harley-Davidson.  Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. followed by a delicious buffet breakfast.  Our presentation will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude before 10:00 a.m. The topic for September’s meeting will be “Health Care Reform” with the Swift Kennedy Insurance Group as presenter.

The registration fee for this event is $10 for current members of our regional Chapter and $15 for non-Chapter members.  Everyone is welcome. Hospital Avenue Project Update for Week of Sept. 13 – The following information is an update for PennDOT’s Hospital Avenue/Dixon Avenue realignment project in DuBois for the week of Sept. 13. All work is weather dependent.

  • The contractor will be forming and placing concrete pavement on South Main Street between Grove Avenue and Dixon Avenue. This work will be in the lane that is currently closed and will not affect traffic. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on South Main Street.
  • The contractor will be seeding and mulching various locations on the project.
  • The contractor will be saw-cutting Dixon Avenue. Flagger will be in place to direct traffic.
  • Motorists are advised to watch for slow moving and stopped vehicles through the entire work zone

The overall project will re-align Hospital Avenue with Dixon Avenue.  Work includes roadway widening, new traffic signals, and improved access to DRMC. The job is scheduled to run through late November of this year.

 

I-80 Clearfield County Update for Week of Sept. 13 – PennDOT issues the following update for I-80 work in Clearfield County.  Motorists can expect the following activity the week of Sept. 13. All work is weather and schedule dependent. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $53 million project.

WESTBOUND:

·         The travel (right) lane will remain closed from mile-marker 115.5 to mile-marker 112.

·         Operations performed will be daytime paving, earthwork and guide rail upgrades.

EASTBOUND:

·         Starting September 13, the travel (right) lane will be closed from mile-marker 105.5 to mile-marker 113.

·         Operations performed will be earthwork and guide rail upgrades.

Moderator Confirmed for Candidate Forum:  AARP and the Greater DuBois Chamber announce a Candidates Forum for Saturday morning, October 23rd from 8:30am to noon.  The location will be the meeting room of Lakeside United Methodist Church at 420 First Street, beside Tannery Dam.  Registration, coffee and donuts begins at 8:30 am with questions at 9:00am.  First on the agenda will be the candidates for US Congress:  Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson will meet his challenger Michael Pipe.    Then, State Representative, Matt Gabler and his opponent Frank Straub will speak.  Mr. Jay Philippone, owner of Priority Communications will be the moderator for the event.  Questions will be prepared in advance – none will be taken from the audience.  If you have issues you feel need to be addressed by both or all candidates, please forward to the DuBois Chamber for inclusion.  The format will provide for timed responses and/or rebuttals to all questions.  Advance registration can be made by emailing the Chamber at dacc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or calling 371-5010.

The Friends of  the Library will present “My Uncle Charlie Did What?!!” Genealogical Resources at the DuBois Public Library. Former library director Leah Green will introduce participants to the hobby of genealogy, suggesting ways to begin exploring family history and featuring resources available at the library. The program will be presented on Monday September 20 from 10:30 until 11:30 A.M. and repeated from 7:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the library program room.  Pre-registration is requested and may be completed by contacting the library at 371-5930 by September 14.

Can You Bring a Vehicle to Touch A Truck Day?  This special event for children is scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd  in the parking lot of the DuBois Mall nearest the Hampton Inn.  Glenn O.
