I believe that it would be better to update the section text to better match 
the later books, i.e.:

"For every bullet you decide to fire (minimum: one round; maximum: eight 
rounds), add an additional point to your total."

Also, after skimming book 2, the rule seems much more solidly worded:

"Add together your Driving and Shooting skill scores. Now decide how many 
rounds you wish to fire at the clansman (minimum: one round; maximum: four 
rounds), and add the number of rounds to your skills total."

But in that case, there is no random number to account for chance.
