Ben,

I don't think there's a need to make a note of the number of rounds
before picking an number and doing the calculation, if that's what
you're referring to.It just makes sense to me, you're firing blind, so you'd 
take the random number, say 5 and add your shooting and perception skills, 
let's say 6; this makes 11.  You can then either decide to fire 3 rounds to 
reach the required score of 14 (in essense shooting until you hit him) or not 
(in which case you miss and must fight him).

In Section 287, should we have a note telling the reader to decide in 
advance how many bullets they wish to fire?  Or, given the description in 
Section 174, can we assume the reader can keep firing until heh ears his 
enemy scream (except that makes the opening text of Section 259 a bit 
problematic)?
