Here are the specifics of my machine, taken from the invoice from when I
bought the components:
Motherboard: MSI K9AGM2-FIH Socket AM2/DDR2 800
SATA II/GB LAN/HDMI (???)
X1250 / PCI-E/ 8ch audio
The ram is PC6400 DDR2, 2 sticks: 1GB + 512MB
Processor is AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Dual Core
Am curious to see what you find :o))

Unfortunately, not every computer tech has their heart in their work or
your best interests in mind. If the one you spoke with assumed anything
(and it sounds like they assumed a lot), they were in a hurry to get through
you and onto the next customer. I always carry a USB stick with a portable
app that tells me all I need to know about the devices within a system
that's put in front of me. If the computer is not present, it only takes
about 5 minutes to locate and confirm the abilities of a mobo as long as the
make/model is known. You're dealing with laziness, M'dear.
If your mobo is only 2 years old, it is very likely designed for
dual-channel RAM. That means a matched set of 1GB sticks (2GB total) will
easily outperform a single 2GB stick working by itself. Send in the
make/model of your system (or mobo, if it's a custom build) and I'll look up
the important info for you.
