We were delighted to have 3 visitors from east of the mountains: Steve Shunk
and Christine Elder from Sisters - Bend area, and Laurie O’Connor from the
Malheur area. We went to Mount Pisgah for the likely mix of species, selecting
the river trail southward. Notable was the total absence of Golden-crowned
sparrows and sparrow flocks, generally present. We did have the five regular
woodpeckers for the area and we encountered a good mixed flock of nit-pickers
and woodpeckers, mostly high in deciduous trees. While driving back, we
stopped at the bridge of ‘Me & Moor’ (farm) to observe the waterfowl in the
swale (except the mergansers).
