This afternoon, a pair of Canada geese walked a single gosling across SE 37th
in Milwaukie to a strip of lawn next to the Milwaukie Market Place. Traffic
was very patient as the geese crossed the road. Once on the grass, the gosling
was a non-stop feeding machine.
The gosling must be at least a few days old, based on size. Typical incubation
is about 28 days, so the egg must have been laid in mid-December. I would guess
this is the earliest gosling I have seen, but my pre-eBird records are not
detailed.
