The expectation of the "ordinary user" is to at least have the "critical functions" available. Arachne does not have SSL, JS and full CSS compliance. In eight years of GPL development it was not possible to add any of these critical functions. It was not possible to do so because Arachne was unable to attract the necessary programming talent. I'm certainly aware of all the hard work, effort and creativity involved with Glenn, Ray, Joe and everyone else. But if it wasn't possible to add critical functions with their considerable efforts, it certainly won't be possible without those efforts. I'm sure there will be more minor improvements and bug fixes--but without a major infusion of talent there just won't be much progress. Glenn Mc said exactly that on many occasions. I see no reason not to believe him. And I quote him here: 49) Wed, Dec 03, 2008 - 9:56:55 am (MST) | | | | glennmcc> | | Ray has ceased development of his fork. | | | | Joe seems to have 'dropped-out' of the development team. | | (in-fact... he seems to have dropped off the face of the planet) | | | | Werner, Bernie, Christoff, etc...etc... have all 'dropped-out' | | | | Hopefully v.195;GPL will suit your needs for quite some time to come. | | | | Because it _is_ 'the end of the line' for Arachne. | | Doesn't that sum it up?
