One thing we found that caused thread breaks and/or looping and  
shifts...my wife has a tendancy not to tighten down the hoop arm  
screws hard enough-we had a couple snap off. (had a machine shop  
friend mill us some stainless steel ones...no problem since!) I used  
pliers since the lousy OEM screws stripped out very early...she  
didn't -just finger tight. Only one needs to loosen up and then your  
hoop starts to bounce around and shift-and can move the needle with  
it causing breaks and pulls.
No one has mentioned checking those screws for looseness, figured I  
would!
