It's very easy to adjust contrast so that wide luminance range of the scene registered in the negative will be printed from pure white to maximum black. However, by doing so, the local contrast of the important parts of the image is often too low and the print looks boring. Contrast control and burning/dodging are different tools with different effects. Adjusting one so that the need for the other is minimized does not make sense to me. Of course it requires more work to use both in the most effective way. But if avoiding work is the goal, then you could machine print or even better go digital. -- Ryuji Suzuki "Keep a good head and always carry a light camera." ============================================================================================================= To unsubscribe from this list, go to www.freelists.org and logon to your account (the same e-mail address and password you set-up when you subscribed,) and unsubscribe from there.
