But the small plastic disk under the "mushroom cap" may be damaged by too much heat. So check that they still operate correctly. My old ones were all metal inside but the new ones have a lot of plastic. They do not last forever. They get deposits and stuff in there I had a so-called professional plumber in here for some other work and asked him to replace the vacuum breakers. He said they were not made anymore, and to just use a check valve (that would violate the plumbing code, although an anti-backflow valve would probably be code around here. I said no. I went to the local plumbing supply store for new ones, but they did not have any. They knew what they were, though. So I went to where the professionals go, and got a pair. A big box store's plumbing department does not even know what they are. This kind of valve would probably also be acceptable: http://www.watts.com/pages/_products_details.asp?pid=886 I have one like this protecting my domestic water from the stuff in my hot water boiler that contains boiler treatment chemicals. -- .~.
