The UN estimates that there were closer to 700,000 Palestinian refugees --
and close to 800,000 Jewish refugees from Arab lands. The Middle East was a
mess for both Palestinians and Jews. Most of the Palestinians chose to leave
the Jewish part of Palestine in response to the alarms Arab countries gave
them about the battle that was soon to descend on the Jews. Most of the Jews
fled the Arab lands because of their persecution.
There are Arabs who live in Israel today and participate as citizens. There
are no Jewish citizens in Arab lands.

You say "A large number of the Palestinians were expelled before the state of Israel was officially established in May 1948. Israel at that time already controlled more territory than was allotted it under the UN partition plan." But your timeline sites, the sites that make "long winded rhetoric" unnecessary, provide no support for this assertion. It could be true, I don't know, but you provide no evidence for it.
*I haven't got all of my sources at hand. According to this rather conservative estimate, around 250 000 Palestinians became refugees by June 1948:

Will get back if I find more sources on this.
