I dismounted the card I'd used for the test and then loaded and mounted the one I wanted to copy items onto. This showed the correct details and I copied across a fair number of file in a directory with one DnD. However partway though it halted on one file with a "No hardware at this device ID" and invited me to skip/abort/etc. I chose 'skip' and it went on to copy other files, completing with no more complaints. The file in question on the SD card then looked like a Data file (i.e. not typed) and smaller than the original. I copied the file again having re-named this 'failed' first copy. Seems OK. I then used 'discknight scsi 0' to check the card and that gave it a "disk is good" clean bill of health. But these events are a bit worrying if I'm relying on SD cards as my common backup method. (Although at longer intervals I also back up via USB to an ADFS HD in an externally powered box.) Can't recall ever encountering this error before.
