It is shorthand for saying that there is little to gain from pursuing a conversation that reaches the point of including references to Nazis. As John himself noted, it needn't have been included but the rhetorical move is obvious: Have one's interlocutor, in this case myself, defend the Nazis. Cute trick if one can turn it but done to the detriment of conversation.
