If you look closely you will see four blades on the leading edge of the wing
in front of the ailerons. These are strakes to smooth the airflow over the
wing. Almost every aircraft has something like these except for the BAe146
which is considered to be a perfect wing and has no stall strips, fences,
strakes or vortex generators anywhere.

On the EMB145 the blades come to a point and sit just forward of the leading
edge - just at eye height. I'm surprised no-one has done a nasty on them
yet.
