That's a DOS command ("change directory"). You see we should have been in DOS, not Windows when we were doing this. I wonder, does that mean AVG is not usable in safe mode on those XPs etc. with NTFS?! By the way, all the lines in the AVG directions are missing the command Enter because geeks think that's as obvious as the missing/nonexistent verb "to be" in some languages (which is eloquently demonstrated when these poor people haven't yet learned the basics of a European language, e.g., English): I almost geek. You geek yet? This the PChelper group. This funny? Sorry if you think it not. -- Very economical and completely incomprehensible at times... If you've never been in DOS and entered mystical commands instead of clicking on buttons in a graphical user interface (invented by Apple), this may blow your mind or make you very happy: www.computerhope.com/msdos.htm www.easydos.com/dosindex.html Ek Billyus Eximius kirjoitti: > What is the prefix cd? > > Billy > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Ekhart GEORGI (last name last)" <ekhart.georgi@xxxxxxxxxxx> > To: <pchelpers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Friday, June 11, 2004 9:45 PM > Subject: [pchelpers] Re: AVG doesn't run in safe mode > >>Just realized that i and maybe Billy didn't read the directions >>carefully enough (at all -- sheepish grin) on >>www.grisoft.com/faq/us_faqtext.php?id=224&sid=25 >>and >>www.grisoft.com/faq/us_faqtext.php?id=53&id_lang=1&sid=25 >> >>Safe mode with command prompt >>cd \ >>cd progra~1 >>cd grisoft >>cd avg6 >> >>I just tried to start AVG from the start menu in normal safe mode. >> >>Will try again later tonight. >> >>Ek -------list-services-below----------- Regards, John Durham (list moderator) <http://modecideas.com/contact.html?sig> Freelists login at //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi List archives at //www.freelists.org/archives/pchelpers PC-HELPERS list subscribe/unsub at http://modecideas.com/discuss.htm?sig Latest news live feeds at http://modecideas.com/indexhomenews.htm?sig Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
