Japan uses only NTSC-M.Only Barbados (briefly) had a version of NTSC on System-N, but it wasn't a standard.

Thanks Don, I've also tried to explain this to the group several times over the years. However, I also was not aware that there were 625/50 NTSC systems; which would occur if NTSC was adopted by a region with 50 Hz power line frequency. Would that be Japan?-----Original Message----- From: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Donald Mccroskey Sent: Sunday, December 17, 2006 11:27 PM To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [opendtv] Re: PAL I wasn't arguing your point, but other postings on the topic were equating 625/50 systems with PAL, and vice-versa. Perhaps that is where my comment should have appeared. Some world TV standards use a 525 line PAL color system, and others use a 625 line NTCS color system. -----Original Message----- From: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dale Kelly Sent: Saturday, December 16, 2006 9:11 AM To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [opendtv] Re: PAL Donald wrote:Keep in mind that PAL is a color system only and does not denote the number of lines or frame rate.I'm not certain how this relates to my posting regarding differential phase distortion being a reason for PAL' introduction. Differential phase errors do generally only impact color performance. i.e.: The color systems reference for phase, known as Burst, resides in the horizontal blanking immediately after the H-sync pulse and it is clamped to a fixed DC level. However, the color video signals located in the active picture area vary in DC level with the luminance (brightness) signal. In a system with differential phase errors, the phase of the color signal will vary relative to the luminance level, which results in a Hue shift relative to the fixed burst reference.-----Original Message----- From: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Donald Mccroskey Sent: Saturday, December 16, 2006 12:42 AM To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [opendtv] Re: PAL Keep in mind that PAL is a color system only and does not denote the number of lines or frame rate. -----Original Message----- From: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dale Kelly Sent: Thursday, December 14, 2006 2:46 PM To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [opendtv] Re: PAL I wrote:Al, How was the PAL feature used to resolve those transmission issues? DaleI answered my own question Al; the differential phase color distortion errors very common in the early terrestrial distribution equipment, as well as in all station transmitters system, would be visually corrected. Receiver design does not resolve this issue, which has since been resolved by better and more stable distribution equipment design and improved correction equipment.-----Original Message----- From: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Dale Kelly Sent: Thursday, December 14, 2006 12:58 PM To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [opendtv] Re: PAL Al wrote:The problem PAL was designed to overcome was the problemswith pipingcomposite video over telephone lines.
