There is no such option available in my list under
Tools/Options/Compatibility.  I have selected recommendations for Microsoft
Word 2000.  Thinking that this document may have been created on an older
version of Word, I looked at setting the recommendations for all other
versions.  I still do not have that option available.

Am I looking in the wrong place?
