Yeah, but they extracted a promise that the Yahweh thing wasn't going to do that again. Breach of contract obviously.

In _God: a Biography_ Miles makes the point that while the LORD GOD does the destroying and apple-tempting, it's regular old GOD who does the dominion-giving and rainbow-making. He argues that this division between nice God and nasty God signifies an imperfect fusion of the previous deities into the single God character.
