This sort of problem occurs every so often for most people, the way to make
it not so hard work, is to keep copies of working $.!Boot 's

Standard recommendation we send customers:

I  strongly recommend users to:
(The example assumes you are using RO4.02, for other OS versions amend 402
to your version number)

Having in adsfs::4.$.Utilities.Copy!Boot
and within that Directories
402Standard !Boot as supplied on the CD with latest patches installed.
402CJE20021204 !Boot as above + personalisation at 4th December 2002
402CJE20030106 !Boot as above + personalisation at 6th January 2003
402CJE20030210 !Boot as above + personalisation at 10th February 2003

The frequency you should make copies, depends on how frequently you add or
change things in !Boot.

Keeping a copy in each directory of the cmos setting is also a very good idea.

If you then have a problem, you can rename $.!Boot to $.Suspect!Boot
Then Copy the factory standard !Boot to root.

Or if the problem is not related to a new bit of software then use e.g.
Copy!Boot.402CJE20030210
