Took a quick look at Logic Pro last night. Don't know my way around it that
well however, was able to navigate the menus ok.

Hi :-) there is an app in the Apple store called logic :-) I'm super

there is keyboard commands for navigating around a project logic

That’s not me being an arse, it’s just playing things safe and not
getting into what it can do, what’s supported, is it free etc etc etc.
As soon as it’s ready, then you’ll know. I’ve only mentioned it,
because there is another option on the table. best steve.

What is it if it isn't Rosd's Cubase solution?

Steve. Is this a Windows based solution? I know that Ross has been
working in QBase for years however, even that requires use of an
external control surface to work.

Phil, as I mentioned yesterday, there is another high end DAW

Steve. Totally agree with you. We need a hi end DAW solution to
replace Sonar 8.5.3. It's great software however, that won't help
current VI students in education. Further more, DD will eventually run
out of Sonar 8.5.3 Producer boxes and who knows what will happen then
:-( Think the issue at Cakewalk is that they are way too busy trying to
chase any dollars they can in order to survive. The crazy thing is that
with a little investment, they could pick up more end users. I have a
client over here who would purchase software like that if it were
available. They are aware that DD can supply a new Sonar 8.5.3 box but
understandably don't want to pay those kind of shipping and related
costs for a product that is 5 plus years out of date.

Yep, totally agree with you Phil. Reaper, at the moment, is a
dead end for any kind of extra development outside of the current main
solution, simply because there is absolutely no support for anything
Jaws related in the Reaper environment.

This could possibly change, as some Sonar users are moving over
to Reaper, due to the latest Sonar being uncertain...and a few of them
may want access to plugs they had previously used in Sonar. Apart from
that, there really isn’t no appetite for anything that isn’t free on
the Reaper platform, probably because of it’s very low cost/free
availability, along with the use of NVDA or a crack version of Jaws..
Of course, this isn’t to say that is the case across the board, but in
the past 2/3 years of making HSC sets available,, 99% of request
for free sets come from Reaper users. I’ve found that users who have
invested in CT or Jaws for example, will invest in a plug and access,
those who don’t invest in such things, find it difficult to make that
jump.

I think it’s a good thing we have Reaper, as it is giving an
option to users who don’t want to invest and just dabble with
recording, but we still need the high end access and tools to keep up
with the sighted user. Best Steve.

Steve. You raise some valid points. You are absolutely right.
Hadn't thought of the offset issue but no doubt it will be an issue for
sure :-( Shall have to carefuly considder the cost for this as think
there will be a financial cost with regard to doing this :and I won't
be picking up the tab for that -)

Phil, in my experience, it’s not as simple as you’ve mentioned.
There is a definite offset...and depending on the plug in question,
splitting up the set and applying different offsets may be necessary.

Recoding the sets for Reaper is as simple as changing the Window
title name and application name referenced in the sets. Can do a find
and replace all for that :-) As for interest in Reaper and Jaws HSC
sets, sure ask the Reaper folks. Would be interesting to get some
numbers :-) Personally planning to keep Sonar 8.5.3 installed even if I
start to dig into Reaper as Sonar has some great plug-ins. Hmm, could
recode all Sonar HSC sets so that they also work in Reaper. It would be
nice to be able to use the Sonitus EQ and Compressor in Reaper as I
have a ton of personalised presets that I use here for both of those
plug-ins.

Glad to hear it's not that much work to repurpose the sets. Count me in
as very very interested, especially since I'll be buying your sets as
soon as I get paid for the current mixing job.

Want me to ask the Reaper folks how many are using Jaws, to
gauge the level of interest?

Yes the HSC sets for Superior Drummer 2 are Sonar based.
Having said that, it would be really simple to recode them to work in
Reaper. Haven't had any requests for that yet though.

perhaps a crowd-funding campaign? People were able to more

Thanks for that.

I should clarify my statement about it being a total Microsoft
issue. What
I mean is that since the OS has to change to accommodate
things like
tablets and the like, it seems that there's this constant
burden that
third-party developers have to scramble to make their products
work under
the new OS; which is fine, as long as there's some sort of
mechanism in
place t
hat can
help them do just that. Not everybody has the massive
resources that Microsoft and Apple have to do it; consequently
they're
constantly behind in having to catch up with the latest and
greatest. It
takes a lot of money and resources paying programmers decent
wages, etc.

I don't know what a fair and viable solution is; and though I
understand
the need to keep up with the technology, I agree with you that
right now
we have a system in place that works quite well, and it's
pretty darn
stable.

Microsoft is not at fault here; honestly in order to make most
of the UI
improvements they have, they had to ditch the old engine
and start with a
new one, especially
for
using apps. Just like what they had to do with the
start menu, taskbar, notification/tray, menu bars which are
mostly ribbons
now, and many other core windows functions. Anyone who’s
tried windows
8 and above knows how different things are from windows 7
and before.
They’d assume the screen readers and other technologies
would make
whatever changes to keep up to date with their OS.
