While sitting on the bank of the ditch in the grassy field at the marsh about
8:00 AM, looking for rails:
We were excited to see a KING RAIL, plainly in view, 30 feet away, for a few
minutes, after which it leisurely walked up across bare ground and into the
marsh, where it continued to chuck heartily for a couple of hours.

Then a Sora walked into plain view, followed a little later by a Virginia Rail.
Each stayed in plain view for a few minutes.

Sitting a few feet away a few minutes later, we had long, close views of a
Marsh Wren.

Later we saw 3 male Wood Ducks, and at another place a female Wood Duck with
about 10 tiny young.

Can't get much better than that! We're very sorry we couldn't deliver views
like this to the TOS members that braved the rain last Sunday.

We couldn't find any Bobolinks. Got one quick glance at a Bank Swallow.

We received via e-mail some definitive information on determining sex of gulls
by behaviour, but it is in an attachment that won't clear TN-birds filter
(which we appreciate). Available by e-mail request.
