This afternoon while birding at the Standifer Gap Marsh in Hamilton County, my
mom and I observed two Brown-headed Nuthatches carrying nesting materials to a
cavity in a dead tree. They repeated this activity constantly for quite a
while. The dead tree is located on the right side of the road that runs
between the two marshy areas. It was about 1/3 of the way back and is much
larger in diameter than all the trees surrounding it. Other species of note:
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers (3)
Virginia Rail (heard 1)
American Coots (40+)
Red-shouldered Hawks (2)
Canada Geese--3 sitting on nests
Northern Rough-winged Swallows (5)
