Absolutely! All current 64-bit Windows operating systems are designed to handle both 32 & 64 bit apps, but those two types play by different rules. The OS keeps them segregated within their own distinct playgrounds partially through the use of those two different locations (there are also separate parts of the registry, too). If you were to mix them into a single location, I can't predict what will happen, but I can tell you it won't make you happy.
