That seams to be typical of ISP's all over the world.  I would also ask them
if they have any back up phone numbers you can try, as they often have more
than one to dial to connect up to the net as well.

I know when I was still on dial up, I ended up with three numbers to try to
dial in.

have you tried dialing into a different isp
my brother in law was having problems a few months back, pc dialed in ok but
then did nothing.
he phoned the isp and got nowhere.
it was only after i found a forum on his isp site that i found out the
problem was with the isp (lots of other people were having the same problem)
the isp was trying to say it was anybodys fault but theirs.
