After I installed Mac OS 10.2.8 I had all sorts of freezes. I called Applecare and they instructed me to use the Disc Utility program on the OS install Disc 1. Run 'repair disc' through and then after run 'repair permissions'. I did as they told me and haven't had any freezes since. It is worth a try.
