Arachne at FreeLists---The Arachne Fan Club! Hi Jason, You prove my point...... THANK YOU !! My computer boots to DOS with an option to press a key and load W$n98...... The boot to DOS takes no more than 10 sec. and lets me see that the BIOS is working and no strange error messages or virus warnings flash by on the screen. Unfortunately, M$ doesn't let one see much of what W$n is doing during bootup....so....that's the time to get coffee!! Then come back and check the status bar to see if your AV, firewall, spyware, etc. programs really started and are running........BEFORE one connects and exposes oneself to the Internet trolls. BTW, I have also saved myself from burning up my printer because I didn't leave it unattended. When the print head started to overheat because of a transistor failure I was able to turn off the printer and save the print head which would have burned up otherwise. Listening to your computer bootup also lets one detect strange noises from failing cooling fans or disk drives and lets one smell overheating power supplies before they burn up.
