Sure, one of the first things I do when I have to work on windows is change that setting. Most of the people who call me for 'support' have it so extensions aren't displayed. Another fine innovation from MS: I know, since we base nearly everything on a file's extension, let's hide the extensions by default!

It just dawned on me that I quit using my ISP's email ages ago. That might be why it hasn't been an issue for me.

Nevertheless, I don't like the practice.
