hmmm, that would be either a "new" form of racing, or a grand prix, like the long beach grand prix which is held and run on the streets of long beach California. alrighty, well the main thing about those tracks are as follows: 1. there run on asphalt, so traction is usually fair unless its raining, (the cars use "slicks" style of tires so if it gets wet out there it can get interesting. 2. the race usually is 2 to 500 miles in length but that can be done in several loops instead of one long run. 3. there are a lot of wide main roads used so the cars have room to "go flat out" or full speed and can pass one another 4. most of the turns are several cars wide, banked, and can be made at higher speeds. 5, a few of the straight-a ways are narrow, and some of the turns are not banked, and the drivers have to slow down greatly to make the turn or go a-flying off into the sunset. 6. there is usually at least 1, sometimes 2 "hairpin" turns in the track where the car can come flying down the straight a way, then has to break to about 20 MPH to make it through this 180 degree turn that is about two car widths wide, then they can accelerate back up to "normal" speeds for the track. 7. there is an area that you have undoubtedly herd of, called the "pits" but you may not be aware of it's design, its a section where the track has a "Y" in it, the main track going straight, and a sub road going off usually to the left of the main one, this swings in to a set of company work areas, where the pit crews stand ready with fuel, spare tires, high sugar and protein drinks and tools to fix the cars, each driver has his own crew, and the area for each team is lined up in a row so the cars can come down this inside road, pull off to right in front of his crew facing the way he needs to go to take off again, get the items he needs, and then floor it to travel down the rest of the road to a spot where it merges back with the rest of the track so he can rejoin the race. I'm not sure how much you know about racing, but pit crews, how well they do, and your car not breaking or coming out of the pits slow, can win or lose a race in the real racing world as much as keeping the car on the track does, and drivers judgment as to his "condition" as well, I did mention those high sugar high protein drinks, if a driver shirks them to save a few seconds in the pits too many times, he can actually pass out at the wheel, not good, but if he spends too much time "feeding the need" he takes too much time in the pits, and can't regain the time back, and looses. one other thing to think on, "random events", in real racing, one can't count on tires lasting as long as they should, sometimes blowing out on the track, crash!, and sometimes getting spotted by the pit crew, no disaster, unless it happens too often and you lose too much time as compared to the others in the race, or your brakes go bad, they can fix that in the pits, in a few seconds, but every! second! you! lose! adds to your chances of loosing, an extra 15 seconds can make the difference between winning and losing! just notions to think on for your game, Inthane . I'm thinking of writing a game in c++. I want to find a way to make the board and map. I thought about using an array, but then that would require that all objects are the same... Any ideas? Also, how are race tracks built? I want to do a bit of racing in the game, just not sure how to lay those out. Thanks, Tyler Littlefield.
