Thanks Hugh and I tried it is Safe Mode and it was 3 minutes faster ie
came up in about 2 minutes.
I will have a problem with reformatting and reinstalling the OS due to
the lack of software. My neighbor says he did not get any
software from Dell. I think it cost more to get the software when buying
a reconditioned unit.

If it boots up quickly, then you know for sure something is trying to
load that's slowing you down. It could be processes you don't even know
about, a mapped rive, as someone mentioned or a crummy driver.
Bootvis will probably help, but I rend to agree that a reformat is the
quickest solution:

Thanks Hugh, I have run all the spyware, antivir*s programs I have and
they have found things but hasn't helped so far. As I mentioned I have
the startup programs to a bare minimum. I have also run defrag, and chkdsk.
The Event Viewer shows one error during startup called "service control
manager" then about 10 "information" tags after the error.
It also shows several DHCP type "warnings" that are probably due to the
wireless setup.
I have no idea what to do with any of these.
