Larry, you will be able to find XP quite easily as it remains the best
selling OS from MS.

Another thing you can do to speed things up is to install another defrag
tool called Diskeeper. There is a free 30 day trial from their site
http://www.diskeeper.com/downloads/downloads-r.asp.

Use it to defrag the hard drive and also to defrag the MFT and page
file. Diskeeper moves all the data more efficiently than the XP defrag
tool and the MFT and page file options will help to speed things up too.

Check to see if any of the Dell bundled software remains on the laptop
and see what can be removed, I'm working on a 4 year old Dell that has
so much bundled software still on it that has never been touched and
removing helps to speed things up a bit.
