Yes Clint I ran chkdsk and defrag. I do not have the OS on disc so can't install if I were to reformat. I will check with Dell today and see how much it will cost. I'm sure I won't be able to find XP anymore and will have to switch to Vista if I buy an OS. They obviously never expect the user to EVER have to reformat. Are you talking about software, or drivers? 2 minutes is still a bit long. Did you defrag and run chkdsk yet? -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://www.OrpheusComputing.com http://www.ComputersCustomBuilt.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "LarryB" Thanks Hugh and I tried it is Safe Mode and it was 3 minutes faster ie came up in about 2 minutes. I will have a problem with reformatting and reinstalling the OS due to the lack of software. My neighbor says he did not get any software from Dell. I think it cost more to get the software when buying a reconditioned unit. LarryB K & L Electronics South Carolina Hugh Vandervoort wrote: Start this puppy in Safe Mode. If it boots up quickly, then you know for sure something is trying to load that's slowing you down. It could be processes you don't even know about, a mapped rive, as someone mentioned or a crummy driver. Bootvis will probably help, but I rend to agree that a reformat is the quickest solution: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/BootVis.shtml LarryB wrote: Thanks Hugh, I have run all the spyware, antivir*s programs I have and they have found things but hasn't helped so far. As I mentioned I have the startup programs to a bare minimum. I have also run defrag, and chkdsk. The Event Viewer shows one error during startup called "service control manager" then about 10 "information" tags after the error. It also shows several DHCP type "warnings" that are probably due to the wireless setup. I have no idea what to do with any of these. ========================= The list's FAQ's can be seen by sending an email to PCWorks-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with FAQ in the subject line.
