Having flown around the Hebrides I agree that there aren't many trees there
and most that survive are short, stunted things. Having said that there are
a few copses of conifers around - part of the forestry planning of recent
years to harvest these quick growing trees. Like most schemes there are good
points to the enforced plantations but they aren't without problems either -
once harvested the ground is so acid nothing grows on it. You can see this
here too.
It's different in Ireland as they still have forests over there. Go down to
Killarney or Lake Ross and you can walk through miles of oak trees as noted
during Queen Victoria's visit to the Gap of Dunloe. It could definitely
benefit from treescaping as much as the UK did.

Not the same AG. Treescapes is from Earth Simulations and the UK VFR
site creator Darren but was done in a different way to earlier efforts.
My understanding is that he created an image recognition programme that
identified wooded areas and planted trees thereon. That made it possible
for him to get remarkably good coverage of the GenX areas.
The downside is that areas he hasn't yet covered, like the new Ireland
photoscenery, now look awfully bare. Actually I'm not sure there are all
that many wooded areas over there. Same with Western Isles, Orkneys and
Shetlands.
The only problem I've had with Treescapes relates to the farm strips.
Often the trees used are of a size that doesn't accurately reflect
what's there in real life. From the air that doesn't matter but in the
case of a strip it can be crucial. I spent about a week pruning, so all
the strips on my setup remain flyable.
His Shawbury fields places his AG buildings throughout Shropshire.
The main AG Tree planter used to be Ray "Shep" Sheppard. I think he had
a slight stroke, last year, and haven't heard much of him of late.
