Sorry Sean, I have to slightly correct you. A customer is most definitely not an investor. An investor either owns part of the company-a stock holder, or is a creditor of the company-a bond holder. Customers purchase the company's products but are in neither of those categories. Now, customers surely have an interest in how the company fares if they will depend on some kind of technical support, but that is different from being an investor.
