The problem with third-party hosted polls without access to the
subscriber database (without a well-defined voters' list, that is) is
that they are so easy to manipulate. Remember all those desktop-linux
polls which were allegedly manipulated by overzealous Ubuntu users? A
poll on this particular issue should:
- Have only one vote per list subscriber. First-cast vote counts.
- Only allow subscribers who are active (a thumb rule like at least
one post in the last six months) to vote.
- Not allow disciplined subscribers (people put on moderation etc. for
various reasons) to vote
