[gmpi] New Reqs 3.8 - Events

Since the 'profiles' section got merged, we're on 3.8 again. :) This time,
3.8 is "Events". There are two FIXMEs in here.
The sample types thread can wind down asynchronously, I think - unless
anyone wants to make that a blocking operation right now?
Otherwise, let's get cracking.
