Gary,
You just have to press really hard on the binding. It might be good to leave
the book open at a few places with something holding it down on both edges
before scanning. Oops, that sentence gets an A for incoherence... <lol> When
scanning you have to be sure that the binding is pressed flat against the
scanner to get the text that's close to the binding.
